NYC opens application for 10th NYP

Fresh from the successful implementation of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) 11, the National Youth Commission is again set to embark on another milestone project—the 10th Parliament of Youth Leaders, also known as the National Youth Parliament. NYP 10 is slated to be held in Metro Manila on May 15-18, 2014.

The Parliament simulates our law-making process. Delegates are given the opportunity to actively engage in plenary debates and discussions aimed at coming up with policy recommendations that are later on endorsed and lobbied to concerned government branches or agencies.

During the 9th NYP held in Naga City, Camarines Sur in 2012, 25 resolutions were adopted and approved by the delegates. Some of these resolutions eventually became the foundation of some NYC advocacies like the Students’ Rights and Welfare Bill and the SK Reform Bill.

To make the event truly worthy to be called a milestone, NYC is bringing back the NYP to Manila. Distinguished personalities from the public and private sectors are expected to give lectures on issues that directly affect the youth.

“We will make sure that the 10th NYP will be bigger and more meaningful for the delegates, the youth at-large and our policy-makers,” said NYC Commissioner-at-Large Jose Rafael Cruz, chairman of the NYP National Organizing Committee.

Since its maiden implementation in 1996, NYP has produced leaders who now occupy important positions in local and national offices. “Aside from the policy recommendations that the Parliamentarians produce, the conference also serves as a training ground for potential leaders,” Cruz added.

Delegates to the Parliament are screened and selected out of hundreds of applicants that come from all across the country taking into consideration equal and geographical representation. Application forms and guidelines may be downloaded here or through NYP10’s official facebook page www.facebook.com/10thNYP.

Deadline of application is on March 21, 2014.

You can download the application form here .

About

The AyalaYoung Leaders Congress is a student leadership summit participated in by 81 outstanding student leaders selected from the best colleges and universities across the country. The congress is designed to build the delegates’ confidence and hone their leadership skills, to nurture commitment to integrity and principled leadership, to foster nationalism and idealism, and to encourage faithful stewardship of their communities and the country’s future.

The four-day congress features talks, outdoor activities, plenary sessions and workshop group discussions. Well-known and highly respected leaders from government, civil society, business, the arts, media and entertainment share their own leadership stories and experiences and challenge participants’ perspectives and paradigms. Outdoor challenges develop a sense of self-efficacy, trust and teamwork among the participants and help build a community of learning that will be sustained after the congress. Small group workshops internalize learning and insights and plan application of learning.

The AYLC is a concrete expression of the Ayala Group’s commitment to national development. It is the keystone of “Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders”, the youth leadership development program launched in 1998 by the Ayala group of companies as a strategic investment in the youth, and ultimately, in the future of the country. Ayala’s dream is to nurture a community and form a network of values-based and principled Filipino leaders committed passionately to nation building and to uplifting the lives of their fellow Filipinos.
